Friday Night Fab Five: Vacation, All I Ever Wanted

This week's Friday Night Fab Five is so simple...I'm on vacation and thought I'd do my top five vacation movies! Here they are, in no particular order:

1. National Lampoon's Vacation

I can so remember torturous summer vacations like this. Well, we never dragged a dog behind our car or ate pee-pee sandwiches but still...

2. Dirty Dancing

I have to be honest, I have a lot of problems with this movie. The primary one being a 1960's setting with mostly 1980's music. However, despite the out of place music and questionable acting, it does draw you in and what is more alluring than going on vacation with your family and meeting 1980's Patrick Swayze...

3. Only You

Another movie I remember watching with my best friend when we were younger and we just thought it was the most romantic thing ever. Jetting off to Europe and falling in love...*sigh*

4. Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Despite the movies on this list, I am not usually a typically "chick flick" kinda gal. "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is more my speed and it is f-u-n-n-y.

5. Pride and Prejudice

This is one of my favorite all time movies. And might I add: the Colin Firth A&E version is the ONLY version to watch, please do not ever watch the Keira Knightly version...yuck! lol There is quite a bit of traveling and vacation in this movie and Colin Firth is Darcy incarnate.

Well there you have it, my top 5 vacation least for now. What are your favorite movies about vacation, to watch while on vacation or to watch to let your brain take a vacation??? lol

Have a great weekend everyone!

P.S.-The fabulous Maria from Personalized Sketches and Sentiments is having a 10% off sale on personalized sketches for all people that comment on her Christmas in July party post during July AND August. She is a fabulous artist so check it out!

Emmy Award Winning Knitting

Some BIG news!

You will never believe it, but I am going on VACATION!

"But Maggi, that's madness I tell you, MADNESS!"

Oh but it's true! Yours truly, who has not been on a vacation since her honeymoon (?!?!) is leaving today to go on vaca! Hoop-Dee-Doo! In your face, Maggi's House! Woo hoo! I will be gone for 10 days, 10 glorious not at home days!

What??? No, don't cry! I'm not leaving forever my darling readers, please control yourselves! Yes, through the power of auto-post I will be with you the whole time! Plus, I may just post some pics from whatever exotic locale I happen to be in at the time.

One last thing before the real post begins: there is a special Craftoholics interview this coming Monday that you won't want to miss! Muwahahahahahaha...

So be sure to miss me tons and NO posting anything cool on your blogs while I'm away! (Although if there's a computer anywhere near me I'll try to make an appearance or two!)

Now, on with the post!

Chris meets many people in his line of work, most of which are complaining or just plain rude (he works in retail) but every once in a while, God smiles upon him and brings some really cool people into the store.

Enter D1 & D2, a fabulous transplant couple from the West Coast. Chris hit it off right away with them and being the generous guy that he is, decided to share his new friends with me and we now enjoy having dinners together and what not. They are a lot of fun and the best part (at least for me) is that D2 is a HUGE crafty person and she is a knitting guru. *gasp* Did someone say knitting! Oh baby!

I have ALWAYS wanted to learn how to knit and now I had someone right in my clutches...uh, I mean someone I knew that could teach me! Luckily D2 was in a teaching type of mood and one night after dinner (D1 is a master at making homemade ice cream by the way) we sat down and she taught me. I didn't do too bad considering she taught me to "knit-knit-knit-knit" and instead I did "knit-purl-knot-knit-huh-knit-what-the-..." But she was very patient with me and she is just fabulous!

Not too bad for a first timer, eh? I'm hoping to be a decent enough knitter at some point. Practice practice practice!

So it happened one night that we went to have dinner at D1 & D2's house when I went into their office to check out something on their computer. We were all in there talking and laughing when something over their computer desk caught my eye...

It couldn't be...

But it is!

Three Emmy awards?! What in the blue blazes?! So I calmly and rationally asked D1 and D2 what the what...

Turns out that D2 is something of a big wheel and won three techinical Emmys because she is so awesome. Wow! Wait, does that mean that I was taught to knit by an Emmy award winner?! Wow!

P.S.-They were nice enough to let me hold one and didn't even laugh when I gave an acceptance speech. And yes, they are heavy...

P.P.S.-Yes, my acceptance speech was awesome...they didn't even start up the "Shut up and get the heck off the stage!" music. How nice...

When They Say 6 Inches, They Mean 6 Inches

I absolutely adore Jimi Hendrix (and his music isn't so bad either) and one of my favorite songs is "Manic Depression". I found these four little pictures of Hendrix and decided to make a set of ATCs inspired by Hendrix and "Manic Depression".

So let me just say that these four little ATCs took me about 3 months to do. It was one of those projects where I'd pick them up, get stuck, put them back down. Pick them up, move them out of my way, put them back down. Pick them back up...well, you get the idea. At one point, I painted them in different colors and then used Elmer's glue to make a crackle effect which was a technique Gabrielle (on the LPS Design Team) taught us at the message board.

The effect was really cool but I was still at a loss on what to do with these things. Then I got some Maya Mist from LPS and it got me thinking about how I could try it out on these ATCs (I was a Mist Virgin you see). So I glued Hendrix to the cards, set them on a paper towel and read the instructions on the mist bottle:

-Shake well (check!)
-Spray at an angle (check!)
-about 6" from surfaces (huh?)

I never was good at math because I apparently have no idea how far away from surfaces 6 inches is, whoops. So I blasted these things with Maya Mist into next Saturday. I got it all over everything, including a vintage hair scarf (no worries, right into the washer it went, all perfect again!) and my crackle effect. Not only that but I had a flashback of Gene Wilder warning Violet not to chew the gum as Hendrix turned bright blue right before my very eyes. Well, crap...

Although the more I looked at them, they didn't seem so bad. But lesson learned, bring a ruler next time I try spraying anything with anything.

A Toot World Premiere and Extreme Blog Makeover

Okay, I about busted a gut trying to contain my excitement at announcing the winner of the blog makeover. How in the world was I able to wait so long?! I've had the winner's name in my hot little hands since this morning (around 1:00 in the morning or so) and have been choking on my secret ever since. (Don't ask me why I didn't just post it with my pin-up ATCs, I've got no clue other than I was trying to extend the suspense and come on, that's just dumb. :P)

I hate posting more than one post in a day because I don't want ya'll to miss anything but I can't hold it in any longer!!!!! So if you missed this morning's post, please scroll down, thanks!

So without further ado, the winner is...oh crap!

Sorry about that y'all, I looked over and Toot was biting on one of Lebowski's dog toys...flipping fantastic...Yuuuck!

Anyhoo, where was I? Oh right! Check it out, Toot made You Tube! Let me explain a little bit here. For some reason, Toot thinks it is HILARIOUS when I make a "gasp!" sound so that's what this is. Also, I was trying to get her to not look at the camera (which she loves so dearly already) so that's why you get a good shot of Anthony Wiggle in the beginning. Scorsese I'm not! :P

And with that may I present....the first ever (public) video of your favorite Toot and mine...

Is there any other sound in the world so beautiful as a baby laughing? Well, maybe "Let's get you a bigger diamond, Darling!" :P

Also, happy fun mail for me today, woo hoo! The fabulous Christy sent me this fabulous array of goodness!

Um, hello! Stickles, blingy embellishment, Tinkerbell stickers AND a new spatula for my Cricut (which I did not have!)?! Does this girl know me or what?!?! Thank you so much Christy, wowowowowow!

Speaking of Christy, did you know that she just found out she's pregnant with her first child??? Congrats Christy! If you have time, run over to her blog and congratulate her!

Well, that's all for today! Join me next week when you'll hear Toot say, "babababababababababababaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" Bye y'all!

Huh? No, I don't think I forgot anything...

Oh! *blush* Well, jinkies I never announced my blog makeover winner, did I???

And the winner is:

Comment number 46 which was:

Merry Christmas in July Sweet Friend!

I'm coming to your house this Christmas! Looks like so much fun! I'm going to smooch all over that adorable Toot while I'm there, that is the cutest photo ever!!

Thank you for doing this Maggie, it's so much fun and I'm trying to get to computer is still being a brat and it's taking forever to download the sites...sigh!

OH SNAP! We have a winner! Well, Ms. Karyn, e-mail me at katamommy @ gmail dot com for details!

Have a great day everyone, I promise this is my last post for the day! :D

P.S.-Callista is giving away some major scrappy goodness HERE! Head on over for your chance to win and make sure to tell her Maggi sent ya! ;)

Caution: There Is A Very Bad Word In This Post!

What a fabulous weekend and blog party that was! Anyone ready for the next one?! ;)

As for the winner of the blog makeover giveaway...don't rush me! I haven't drawn the winner yet but will make the big announcement in my next post, I promise! (Or do I already know the winner and am just dragging out the suspense? Hmmmm....)

Until then, feast your eyes upon the sweetest little ole eye candy you ever did see! As I mentioned before, I am hosting a vintage ATC swap over at Life Preservers Scrapbook Club and I don't know if it was because I'm the hostess or what but somehow, in between the mountains of Christmas party merriment, I finished my 12 ATCs in record time! And of course was so excited about them that I couldn't wait to post them and see what y'all think!

I used pages from an old book (the book was falling apart and in horrid shape so I felt no shame in gutting it. :D)

I used some pin-ups, various goodies and punchinella from Gauche Alchemy and LPS. Then I used Stickles to highlight particular phrases that caught my eye.

What do you think?! I have to say how proud I am of these because the ATCs I made previously to this were doody. lol That's such a fun dirty word...doody...hee hee...

Christmas Hangover...

Well, the presents have been unwrapped and I think I may have drank a little too much egg nog. Anyone else feeling the effects of yesterday's blow out?? I don't know about you, but I had a blast!

I have to take some time and thank all of you, from those that hosted parties to those that visited with us and took time to leave some love. I appreciate you all so much and am still reeling from such a wonderful response and from attending some majorly fabulous parties! Wow! I saw Santa, had some rum, sang "Dominick the Donkey", helped decorate for a Pink Christmas, had some rum, watched "A Christmas Story" over and over (it never gets old), got about a dozen new recipes to try, had some rum, found some new craft ideas, shared the fun of family traditions AND I had some rum! *hiccup*

P.S.-Thanks Melissa for the rum!

Thank you so much for making my first run at hosting a blog party so successful! All of your parties were beyond marvelous and you all deserve a huge pat on the back for your hard work, thank you again!

And the fun keeps on coming as my fabulous friend Karyn gave me this:

This is a "BFF" award which stands for "Blogger Favorite Friend" and now I'm to give it to 10 blogging friends and also tell you 10 things I love about blogging (look at me following the rules :P) So here are my pals:

Karyn (Yes, I'm giving this right back to you but I can't leave you out so there. You don't have to post it again! lol)

Oh geez, it's too hard picking just 10! There I go breaking rules again...

10 Things I Love About Blogging

1. I can say whatever I want because it's my blog (Buttface-poop-boobs!)
2. I don't read the newspaper in the morning with my coffee, I read blogs.
3. I've had to go to the bathroom for the past 10 minutes but I want to finish this post first, that's how much I love blogging.
4. I meet 100 times more people than I ever would get the chance to meet if I didn't blog.
5. I have a captive audience for my various witty remarks and anecdotes. (There once was a man from Nantucket...)
6. I can post embarrassing pictures of my husband.

7. Blogging is fun.
8. I've made friends through blogging that I always want to have in my life from now on.
9. I get cool awards that I can pass on to other bloggers.
10. I love posting about Toot. (Plus if I stopped posting about Toot, everyone would stop reading my blog. What can I say? The kid brings in the readers...)

Thank you so much for thinking of me Karyn! You're so fabulous!

Speaking of fabulous, look for my blog makeover giveaway winner announcement soon! You have until midnight tonight to leave me a comment on THIS POST for your chance to win!

P.S.-It has been suggested that with all of the new visitors to the party blogs, some winners of various blog candy might not know they're winners so if you had a giveaway on your blog and would like me to post your winner on my blog as well to make sure they get the good news, e-mail me the info at katamommy @ gmail dot com.

Love to you all!!!!

I'm Dreamin' of a Blog Christmas...

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones

Ho ho ho!
What's that I hear?
A sleepy village
Full of Christmas Cheer!

Seasons Greetings and Merry Christmas!
Welcome to my Christmas in July blog party!
I'm so glad you could join me, do come in!

A jolly wreath adorns the door and Chris has been working hard to make a special treat just for you!

We make both sauerkraut and potato pierogies and love eating them for breakfast on Christmas morning (although the Southern girl in me makes sure they are deep fried! :P)

Chris' family has been making pierogies on Christmas Eve for generations. His grandmother used to make over 100 pierogies by hand-by herself on Christmas Eve morning. We carry on this tradition in our home during the holiday season.

What's this? Another family tradition, making delicious oladyi which is a Russian yeast pancake. We eat them with cloves of garlic.
They are a-m-a-z-i-n-g!

(Sugar Addicts note: they are even better douse in powdered sugar instead of garlic!)

The table is set, let's dig in!
Don't be shy, there's plenty for everyone!
And once you are full and ready to rest,
how about some Christmas classics before we open presents?

I don't know about you,
but all of those classics gave me a second wind and got me in the mood for presents!
Let's gather around the tree!

Oh look, I see a very special present under the tree!

Wait a minute...

Toot?! How did you get under there?!
This picture is of Toot at one month old...
Yes, I's shameless Toot promotion. :P

This looks like a fun present, I'm going to open it!

Hang on, this present isn't for me!
It's for you!
Well, for one of you anyway! ;)

My Christmas in July gift to one lucky party goer is a Cr3zy Design Blog (Personal) blog makeover (on me!) created for the winner by the fabulous Traci at Sweet Cheeky Designs (who designed my blog!). All you have to do to enter is comment in this thread by midnight, Sunday, July 26th. I will randomly draw the winner and make the announcement next week.
I need a way to contact you and you wouldn't want me to regift this to someone else would you??? :D

And now it's time to say good bye as you bundle up to head off to other fabulous parties today!
See that list in the right sidebar? Well those are other amazing parties just waiting for you to come and join the fun! Some have delicious refreshments, some have more presents, some have holiday stories and I know a few have some marvelous Christmas surprises in store for you! (Each link opens in a new window so you can remain here and have easy access to all of the parties!)

Please visit them all and enjoy yourself!

As you leave my cozy home to join other parties, feel free to come back and take your leisure by our fire whenever you like!

Thank you so much for making merry with me and celebrating Christmas in July. And thank you to all of my fabulous party hosts and hostesses, you are amazing and I'm having so much fun visiting with each of you and gettin' down with our holiday selves!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Twas The Night Before Partying Our Fingers Off...

How can I possibly focus on a Friday Night Fab Five when there are so many things to do??? I've got so many things running through my mind I'll probably edit this post about a dozen times today so just check back with me every five minutes! :P I've got food to make, decorations to hang, presents to wrap!'s too much...I can't...getting...weak...need an elf

Oh here's my elf now!

Okay fine, that's not an elf. That's Toot from Christmas last year. She was only a month old when this picture was taken. Awwwwwwwww......

Okay seriously folks, I am so EXCITED for tomorrow! It's just like Christmas Eve when you're dying to open presents and you're praying Santa Claus brings you that pair of roller skates with the pink glitter pom poms and then you can't get to sleep and then your parents tell you if you don't go to sleep that Santa won't come and that scars you for life because how can you possibly make yourself sleep if your body refuses to sleep which means Santa won't come and there won't be any skates, no Barbie dream house and then no Christmas...oh no, it's happened...overload...Christmas overload.....

*deep breaths*

Whew, okay...I think I'm okay now...

So anyone remember that frantic Christmas feeling from childhood or was I the only looney tune up late on Christmas Eve praying that God would knock me out so Santa would come? Hmmmmm????

Well at any rate, let's take a break from all of the Christmas in July Eve cleaning, planning and preparing with a little break, eh? For those of you who aren't aware of the newest Christmas tradition, a particular television channel here in the states shows the movie "A Christmas Story" on Christmas Eve over and over for a straight 24 hour period. And! So let's relax a little before we get back to work, shall we?

All right, break's over! :P

I do have some late breaking news to share with you all and then I'll give some final instructions and tips for tomorrow! *excited Jillian dolphin squeal*

1. The ever fabulous Karyn is paying it forward by making a little something something for 5 people that visit her blog. I was lucky enough to be one of those 5 people and now I get to pay it forward by making something for 5 of you! You know, I don't even mind if it's more than 5, if you would like something made by me, just let me know by e-mailing me at katamommy at gmail dot com and I'll send something out to you! (International peeps are welcomed!)

2. The newsletter is up and running at Life Preservers Scrapbook Club and if you click here and scroll down you'll see their member spotlight. Go on, keep scrolling! Did you see it??? Oh snap! It's me! *blush* Garsh golly gee!

3. The amazing Kirsty from Giggly-Cupcake gave me this award!

Thank you so much for thinking of me Kirsty, you are so fabulous!

4. The marvelous Ally is hosting a vintage themed ATC swap and last I heard she had two spots still left open so if you're interested in a swap, head over to her blog or e-mail her at xoxoallyserrato at for more info! This is my first swap with Ally and I'm super excited!

5. And not only that but I am hosting a vintage themed ATC swap over at LPS (what can I say, I cannot get enough vintage!) and we have 4 spots open at the moment so if you're interested in signing up, head on over and sign up for the message board! The folks there are so amazing and hey, I'm there know... :P

Hey, look at me! I did post a Fab Five today! Go me! :D

And I bet you thought I had forgotten about my pay it forward stash giveaway and you would be right, so sue me! :P

The winner is...Christy! E-mail me your address and I'll send ya some special Maggi stash! (Scrapbooking stash I mean!)

Now on to party business....

I cannot believe the response I've gotten from people ready to celebrate Christmas in July with me! From the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much! And for those of you that aren't able to host a party but are planning on visiting with us, thank you very much, you will be so amazed with everything in store for you!!!

Now, I want to make sure I make things as clear as possible for you all so here's some last minute tips and instructions:

-You do not need to host a party on your blog in order to enter any giveaways or to party hop. We want everyone to enjoy all of the parties and the hosts are looking forward to sharing their Christmas in July with you! So don't be shy, stop by these fabulous parties, leave a comment and spread some Christmas magic of your own!

-Party hosts: don't forget to post your parties!! lol If you need to be taken off the list or want to be added on, e-mail me ASAP! katamommy at

-Tomorrow, you will start here with my party, then you can begin to visit the blog parties listed to your right in the sidebar. They are listed in alphabetical order and you can visit them in any order you want! Start from the top, start from the bottom or start from the middle! Go crazy!

In order to make visiting the parties as easy as possible, each link will open in a new browser window so that you never leave my blog and lose the list. If I can give you a tip: click on a few of the links at one time and then close each window after you leave a comment there. Then carry on to the next few you click on, make sense? Believe me, this will save you some time and you can have blogs loading while you're reading others. My personal strategic maneuver is to click on 5 blogs at a time, comment on each and then go to the next five.

Now if you will excuse me, I need to go put on my stern Mommy face for this next bit...

Okay, I'm back. Now it's time for a gentle nudge, to both party hosts and party goers:

The people hosting parties on their blogs have put a lot of time and effort to make it as fun and special as possible. Some of them are giving away blog candy (out of their own pockets) and quite a few are first time blog party hosts and I want to make sure that they all have the best experience possible.

Now, I know that you have busy lives and I certainly don't expect everyone to be go all out but please make the effort to visit as many (if not all!) of the parties as possible (especially you hosts!). Just join some parties instead of reading the morning paper with your coffee! I will definitely be visiting everyone on the list and cannot wait to see all of the creative parties out there!

Again, I don't expect anyone to be perfect and I certainly understand that there are time issues, just please do your best, it will be so appreciated by our fine party hosts and hostesses!!!

Stern Mommy Face off now...Thank you for your kind attention! :)

Okay, I've read, reread and rewrote that last part a dozen times and I'm praying that didn't come off rude or mean! *nervous* I'm so excited and you know how it is when you host a party, you want everyone to have the time of their lives! lol

Listen, y'all are fabulous and I am just so excited to be sharing this event with you all! How will I get any sleep tonight?!?!?!?!?!

Blogging A.D.D.

Oh lawd y'all, I've got so much to share today I had to make a blog list on my iPhone in the middle of Target this afternoon. (You can laugh but I bet Christy and Ally know what I'm talking about! :P) Anyhoo, y'all ready?! Here we go!

First of all, my husband thinks he's soooooo funny...

And isn't he so dashing in his new haircut? Actually, I don't know what's worse...him feeling up a paper doll or me taking a picture of his smarty pants-edness.

Next, the fabulous Lola tagged me with this:

So this is what I'm suppose to do:

1. Collect the book that you have most handy
2. Turn to page 161
3. Find the 5th complete sentence
4. Cite the sentence on your blog
5. Pass it on to 5 other victims (Oops! bloggers)

And here is my sentence:

"She lugged the books everywhere, as well as a copy of the greatest Victorian writer's letters which Alexander Woollcott had sent her as a wedding present."

From the book "Vivien: The Life of Vivien Leigh", which I have yet to start yet (still reading a book on Jimmy Stewart) but it was the closest book handy so there it is! And I will tag...hmmmmmm.....

1. Christy
2. Karyn
3. Danielle
4. Vicki
5. Melissa

Now for some exciting news for you creative types: there's a new challenge blog a comin'! It's called Dare To Be Different and they are currently accepting submissions for their design team! They are looking for 5 scrapbookers and 5 altered book/art journal artists so head on over and check it out! They are accepting submissions until August 13th, good luck!

Speaking of altered books, guess what I've got to show you!

So over at JAD's, they are doing a "Book of Me" challenge and I decided to join in. Luckily I had a chipboard album that my fabulous friend Callista sent me so I decided to use that. The first challenge was to make the cover page...easy enough!

The picture is one of me on my honeymoon. Not the best picture but bah, whatever! It works! lol

As for my second project, my ever-muse at DustJacket Attic has been using Mondays to post pictures of (or inspired by) particular fairy tales. Every Monday is a different story or tale and I find it so inspiring! (If you don't believe me, check out her posts on Cinderella, Snow White and Rapunzel. Go on, I'll wait...)

See, told you so! :P

Well seeing this Monday's post on Little Red Riding Hood gave me the idea to start a fairy tale inspired altered book. Aren't I the clever one? Anyone? *crickets*

So I made my cover page and am planning to make a double page layout for each story I put in the book. It won't be a retelling of the story or anything but a sort of artistic impression from the story itself. Anyway, enough blah blah blah, here's the cover page:

So I think that's all I had for today...let me see....*checking iPhone list*...Yup, covered it all! Of course I'll think of 100 more things once I hit publish but whadda gonna do, eh?

How about I leave you with this funny scene from the fantastic "Bringing up Baby" starring the fabulous Katharine Hepburn and the dreamy Cary Grant. If you don't want to watch the whole clip, at least skip to minute "4:39" and check out the fabulous shoes Ms. Hepburn is wearing!

Say Say Say

Gauche Alchemy is currently having a contest to name their pink kit! So put your thinking cap on and make your suggestions here! Tell them I sent ya! (I helped named the blue kit, "Blue Streak" yay me! lol)

Update "Christmas In July" blog party:

Wow, have you seen the list over to the right there? I was praying I'd get 5 people to party with me this Saturday and we're over 40 now! That is so awesome! Thanks to everyone that's going to celebrate Christmas with me this weekend. Please make sure you actually post on Saturday if your blog is on the list! (You of course have the option to post your party on Friday if you'd like to get a head start!) If you've decided that you will not be able to participate please e-mail me and I will take your name off of the list. If you want to be on the list and do not see your blog, please e-mail me ASAP! I've tried to make sure I have everyone listed. katamommy at gmail dot com

If you cannot host a party of your own, I hope you will join us on Saturday and party hop your fingers off! A little birdie told me that there will be loads of giveaways (including one from yours truly), yummy food and who knows what else so don't miss out! One last note, I'm taking sign-ups until Friday night so it is never too late to sign up! (Well, unless it's Saturday...then its too late. :P)

This week's challenge over at Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge Blog was to use an unexpected element in your project inspired by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. (They pick a different movie every week, fun!) Luckily you are able use inspiration from any of the HP movies because I decided to make a page in my 3x4 altered book using my movie ticket from the new movie and a magic wand made from a toothpick:

I think this little book is finishing up, I'm running out of room! Luckily, I got the best idea yesterday after visiting one of my muses, DustJacket Attic so look for a new project coming soon!

The crop at Life Preservers Scrapbook Club was a blast although I did more chatting and game playing than actual scrapping...oops! lol Oh well, here's a couple of mine from the crop anyway:

Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Her Name Is BunnyKissd And She Is A Craftoholic...

Welcome to this week's edition of Craftoholics!

No idea what the what I'm talking about? Go here to find out more!

This week's Craftoholic is the fabulous BunnyKissd!

Please list any crafts you enjoy making. What is your favorite?

"It started with scrapbooking and painting, then moved into polymer clay and drawing, now I am starting to get into making dolls and sewing! I’d say my favorite is painting things though, making the colors flow and blend into the perfect image..."

From BunnyKissd: "ManyOceans Pendant – I lovelovelove how the background came out on this and ManyOceans was so happy with how her cat was depicted. I get warm fuzzies every time I see it!"

When did you start making crafts? Was there a particular reason or event that got your started?

"I’ve always been a crafty kinda girl: my grandmother got me started with crayons and paper and scissors when I was little and it’s just grown from there."

What do you like to do when you aren't crafting?

"I read. A lot. And I blog, take road trips and watch the occasional DVD...and swimming – oh I love swimming in the lake!"

What makes you a craftoholic? What drives you to create?

"Every time I see some new crafty thing, I want to try it. It always looks fun to me. My desk and kitchen table are literally covered with half-started projects of all sorts (which is why no craft space piccy... >.< )! All sorts of things drive me to create: a song, a photograph, a story, a friend, a dream..."

From BunnyKissd: "It was fun to use media that I hadn’t used in a *very* long time (we’re talking DECADES!), and she just came out so perfect! Look at that hair! ^o^"

What is your favorite food?

"I love carbo-licious things that sadly, as a diabetic I can no longer pig out on. -_- Ice cream, cookies, cake, BROWNIES, candy, nachos, Hawaiian buns... I also love cheese! ^-^"

What food do you hate to eat?

"I do not like canned asparagus. There are a few other things I don’t care for, but will eat if served. But no canned asparagus. :P"

How long have you been blogging?

"I started my first online journal in January 2004 but it was definitely more personal and had way more drama than I wanted. So I made that one private and started my Blogspot blog in July 2006."

From BunnyKissd: "My Guilty Pleasures Candy Album - (you can see the rest of the pages here) This album was so fun to make! I had been planning it for a while so had saved a lot of wrappers and it was just fun to remember everything and create a nice layout using such *forbidden* supplies... (OMG THEY’RE NOT ACID & LIGNON FREE!!! XD )"

What do you like best about blogging?

"Finding friends all over the world. Giving away stuff. Getting inspired!"

What craft have you always wanted to try but, for whatever reason, never have?

"Creating things from glass: little stained glass boxes, dichrotic glass pendants & beads, stuff like that. OH! And things in resin... ^-^"

Oh no! You've been ship wrecked on a deserted island! (Luckily you grabbed your adhesive and scissors before you jumped ship!) Name 3 other crafting supplies that your creative survival depends upon! (Note: Capt. Jack Sparrow is not a crafting supply!)

"WHAT? No Capt. Jack Sparrow??? -_- Well then I certainly hope the rum isn’t gone... XD OK, seriously... sketchbook, pencil bag (contains colored & normal pencils and a sharpener), and digital camera."

Yum, rum! lol

Thanks for letting me interview you BunnyKissd! You are such a talented Craftoholic!

Be sure to check back next Monday when another lucky victim...ahem, I mean crafter will be added to the Craftoholic family!

*There will not be a Craftoholics interview next week as we will all be recoopurating from the Christmas in July party! Happy Monday everyone!

Harry Potter and the Totally Awesome Altered Book

Happy Sunday everyone!

Well the crop over at LPS is going strong and I've got squat to show for it! lol Friday was pretty strong but yesterday included a visit from my mom and going to see "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" with a friend. (Note: final verdict on the movie-Half Blood Prince is excellent despite being a half book movie.)

I'm hoping to get some more of the crop challenges completed today so I'll save my crop creations for later this week. In the meantime, I do have a couple of new pages from the 3x4 altered book to share with you:

Among us gamers, there's usually some debate on whether video games can be considered "art" which is what this page is referencing. When I got to this point in creating this page, I thought it needed something but I didn't know what. I was wrestling with it because essentially all I did was glue patterned paper to the page and add a title. Then I decided that leaving it simple made the title have a double meaning and that it made the point for me even more. Ooooo, how deep of me! :P

Now this next one I am so in love with, I made out with it for a while. I had this idea in my head after going through the red and black mixed media color kits from Gauche Alchemy. These color kits are so amazing and inspirational! This was definitely the quickest one to make because I knew exactly what I wanted to do for it. I love it when that happens!!!

Thanks for checking out my work everyone! I always appreciate your sweet comments!

Friday Night Fab Five: Made In China

When I was a little girl, I got this Barbie Dream House for Christmas one year. This house was H-U-G-E and I loved it so much! It got sold in a yard sale but I've never forgotten it and now that Toot is here, well it's all coming back to me! Lately I've been thinking about all the neat toys I had as a kid (because quite frankly I think most of the toys out there today suck! lol).

So for this Friday Night Fab Five, I thought I would share some of my favorite 80's toy memories. Yes, it sounds materialistic but don't blame me. This was the 80's. I was living in a material world and I was a m-m-material girl. So without further ado, please to enjoy...

1. Barbie and The Rockers.

Yes, Barbie was in a band in the 80's! Notice near the end of the spot where Ken says, "When Barbie asked me to join the band, (he said,) 'That's cool.'" and then Barbie says, "Now I dance with my man!" Oh brother...

2. Cabbage Patch Kids

I did not get my first Cabbage Patch Kid until the fever died down a little. If you don't know what I mean by "Cabbage Patch Kid Fever", check this out:

I finally got my very own CBK about a year later and let me tell you, back then you had EVERY accessory known to man available for these things. Cribs, diaper changing tables, strollers, tubs, everything!

3. My Little Pony

These were almost as important as Barbies for me. You could brush their hair, some smelled like candy and believe it or not, I still have mine! (Somewhere in my basement anyway...)

4. Lite Bright

Okay, I have to be honest here: this toy was more fun in theory than in actual playtime. You have this black construction paper pattern you hook onto this plastic thing with a light bulb in it. You then have to spend 3 days plugging in these little colored plastics things. Then you cut the light on and it's lights up, wow! Then you have to spend an additional 3 days taking all of the plastic do whats back out because you're tired of that picture and want to do a different one. Lots of work for little reward...

5. Kids Incorporated

Okay, so this isn't a toy but come on, in the 80's who didn't want their own kid band that performed in a restaurant and lip synced popular songs that coincided with the current problems they had??? Admit it! Plus, one of the kids on this show grew up to be Fergie from Black Eyed Peas so I guess it wasn't a total waste...

And there it is, a Fab Five directly from the most rad decade of them all, like I'm so sure. Do you have a favorite toy from your childhood?!

Now a word from our sponsors...

The ever fabulous Jocelyn shared some of her stash with me and sent the most marvelous vintage-y scrapbooking stuff ever! Thanks Jocelyn! Now it's time for me to pay it forward so if you would like to win some of my stash, please leave a comment in this post and I'll draw a winner next week. No worries if you don't scrapbook! If you win and you don't scrapbook, I'll send you something else from my myriad of stash collections. :P

Speaking of which, I forgot to show you the fabulous vintage hat I got from Sleepy Poet last week:

Isn't it darling??? I can't believe we (as a general culture) don't want to wear things like this anymore!

That's it for me, we have a fabulous crop going on over at LPS and it's awesome! I will be getting no sleep but in return I will have my child's pictures scrapped so it's so worth it! (Totally!) So if you're of a scrapping mind, hit the message board and crop with us!

Have a great weekend everyone!

A Funny Thing Happened To Me On The Way To Poison Control....

The funniest thing happened to me this afternoon! Okay, so Toot's in her crib, taking a nap and she wakes up. Now sometimes she wakes up in a good mood and sometimes she wakes up on the absolute WRONG side of the crib. I'm not sure what makes the difference...

Anyway, she starts crying and I go in her room to get her. I pick her up and whisper soothing "Mommy of the Year" type things in her ear and then to jolly her out of this bad mood, I do something that never fails: I bury my face in her onesie covered baby tummy and proceed to give her kisses on her belly. lol Isn't that the funniest thing ever?!

It's not? You mean you don't think that...*rereading what I've written so far* Ah, I see now. I left out the part where HER DIAPER HAD LEAKED AND I DIDN'T NOTICE AND I BURIED MY FACE INTO TONS AND TONS OF PEE PEE!

And we're talking freshly peed too. Not dry or sort of drying...soaking wet and yours truly bury her face in it and kissed it. What the...GROSS!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say I went running for the sink and a washcloth. Blurgh!

*deep breath*

In other news, I finished another page layout in my artsy fartsy journal-y not really sort of book. This was made with some of the Happy Housewives kit and packing materials from Gauche Alchemy. Have I mentioned how much I love Gauche Alchemy? I haven't?! Well, I do so now it's been said!

Thanks for taking a gander at my little ole' bit of artsy what nots. See you tomorrow for another Friday Night Fab Five! Have a great evening everyone!

I Heart Tombow Glue...

First I have to thank all of you for your sweet comments about Toot. She would thank you too but she's currently trying to eat my couch. I also have to thank my dear friend Karyn for this. You are awesome Karyn!

My mom is addicted to Pier One so whenever we're together, we usually end up there at some point. And so it was this past Saturday after Toot's portrait session we found ourselves at Pier One and I found this little 3x4 blank journal on clearance for $1.

It doesn't look like much, I know. The pages inside are those blank, natural looking parchment like pages and being 3x4, there's not a lot of room. I nonchalantly made some comment about using it as an art journal of sorts and that was that.

So I get it home and start thinking about what I could do with it. I have to say that I've since become obsessed with this little book. Here are a couple of pages with luckily have fit the bill for two challenge blogs this week. (Go me!)

I used part of the white, yellow and brown mixed media color kits from Gauche Alchemy and the quote is the title of the book the movie "A Christmas Story" was based on by Jean Sheperd called "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash". I made this for this week's challenge at Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge.

This was was almost entirely made from the pink mixed media color kit at Gauche Alchemy except for the letters which are Thickers and the little crochet flower which is from Paper Blooms. I made this one for the very first challenge of the new challenge blog: These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things.

This one was made using the "Happy Housewives" kit from Gauche Alchemy.

I've been having the most fun with this little book and cannot wait to show you more pics of some pages I've made in it!

Broken Record Time: Wow, I am so excited about the growing list for the Christmas In July blog party! Remember, if you would like to add your blog or site to the list (or want it removed), please e-mail me at katamommy at gmail dot com.

Have a great evening everyone!
