I'm On Board With Anything That Has "Mania" In The Title

The preview for Collage Mania 2009 is now open! Collage Mania is "A Fiberart For A Cause" fundraiser, put together by Virginia Spiegel, where 161 artists from all over the world have created and donated collages that will be sold on May 5th-7th. 100% of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.

And let me tell you, there is some gorgeous work there and my fingers are crossed that I'll be able to snag one of these fabulous collages before they're all gone!

Here is information and directions on buying and here are all 383 collages that will be available to buy on May 5th through the 7th.

Thanks to Frieda for the heads up and check out Page 6 where her collage is displayed!

In other not as cool as awesome collages news, here are a couple more ATCs. The first is another Kawaii style, this time a cupcake and the second is one of the ATCs I made for the Spring swap at LPS.

Must Think Spring...Must Think Spring...

I am trying...

I really am...

I am suppose to be working on the 9 Spring ATCs I need for the swap at LPS. I have gotten one done so technically I just need 8 more...

And I'm really trying, I promise...

But oh nertz, my inspiration is pffftttt...at least when it comes to Spring. I keep getting discrafted and then wah wah wah, wah wah wah wah (as Charlie Brown's teacher would say). *sigh* Oh well, I'll get there!

In the meantime, I totally want to be her. It occurred to me the other day that I'm not in the corporate world anymore...I can color my hair any freaking color I want to! And I'm gonna so be watching for that! Now I just need a Lucy Ricardo wardrobe and a set of pearls...

And here is my first Kawaii ATC. I adore Japanese culture and thus the inspiration for this ATC:

I painted the background with various acrylic paints, cut out the different arches for the rainbow and then colored over them with Stickles. I cut out the clouds, drew on faces and outlined them with Stickles. Me likey...

Now, on to Spring...

Hopefully...

Are You A Craftoholic?

Do you suffer from creativity overload?

Do you find yourself compelled to make fabulous things?

Do you dream in pixels, paper or paint?

Have you ever coughed up a brad?

If your answer to any of the above questions is yes, then you may be a "Craftoholic". There is no cure because this is not a problem...it is awesome...

So awesome in fact that I want YOU to join my league of fabulous Craftoholics. It's easy for me to say, "go visit so and so's blog" but just who is the artist behind the blog? That's what I want to find out. I am looking for people to interview that would allow me to post said interview on my blog in an effort to get to know blogging buddies and fellow artisans better.

This snazzy button could be yours!

(With your name of course) :P

The newest Craftoholic's interview will be posted here every Monday. Prepare to be dazzled!

This is open to anyone who crafts: scrapbookers, cardmakers, altered project makers, knitters, crocheters, digital artists, whatever you make, I want to hear from you! Would you like to be interviewed and proclaim your craftoholic-ness to the world? It's as easy as:

1. Follow my blog!

2. E-mail me your wish to be interviewed at katamommy at gmail dot com and title your e-mail, "I'm A Craftoholic!" Please include your blog or website address, you must have a blog that is updated regularly in order to participate! You will be sent a set of questions which you will need to answer and return to me. I will need your answers back before you can be placed on the waiting list for posting. Interviews will be posted in the order which received (just like your friendly neighborhood customer service number, expect much much cooler).

And 3. Sit back and pat yourself on the back for an interview well done. You will be notified when your interview will be posted along with you very own button to display on your blog or website.

Now, if by some crazy chance no one is interested in being interviewed, I will post an interview with myself on Monday...and trust me, you don't want to see that happen so get your request in!

Thank you my Craftoholic sisters!

ATC Music Series

Although I should be focusing on making ATCs for the LPS Spring ATC swap, I got distracted (or discrafted may be a better term) by this music note paper I found the other day. So I decided to make a short series of music ATCs.

I'm also working on a series of Kawaii ATCs as well and I have finished one of my Spring ATCs so we're moving forward at least. :P

So let's dish about the weekend! My girls came over last night and we chatted and played some Rock Band...it...was...AWESOME! lol Although I think it was universally decided that our favorite part was the coffee liqueur. So good...I love not being pregnant!!! LOL

Friday Night Fab Five: Honeymoon Edition

For our honeymoon we chose to go to Disney World. Neither of us had ever been there and since we act like a couple of kids anyway, this was a perfect choice for us. We had planned on going back for our 1 year anniversary but since I ended up being very pregnant, that trip has been postponed until Toot is old enough to go with us and enjoy her first trip to Disney World. We often talk about that trip and the phrase, "I miss Disney" is often heard around our house.

So I thought that for this week's Fab Five I would pick 5 of my favorite pictures from our honeymoon...

1. Our Favorite Restaurant-Raglan Road

This is an Irish restaurant and pub in Downtown Disney and their food was AWESOME. We ended up going twice while we were there and have told people to check it out whenever they go to Orlando. lol Bangers and Mash...yum!

2. The One Time I Didn't Care That He Wasn't Listening To Me

Chris arranged for us to eat at a character buffet with Winnie the Pooh and friends. I was talking to him (or "at" him apparently) about who-knows-what now but I started to notice that instead of listening to me, he could not quit smiling and watching Tigger, Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore walking around so I took a picture of him to capture that look on his face.

3. Our Picture With A Thousand Strangers

As we were leaving Animal Kingdom, we noticed the Photo Pass photographers standing around so we grabbed one and said, "Hey, can you take our picture with a thousand strangers?" The guy didn't get us until we pointed to the throng of people around us trying to leave the park.

4. Our Favorite Park Snack

If you have been to Magic Kingdom and haven't gotten a Dole Whip, you're missing out! Pineapple juice over pineapple soft serve....soooo good! I'm drooling now just writing about it.

5. Chris In Hats

For some reason, putting hats on Chris and taking his picture was hilarious to me. And I think this picture proves me right...

That's it for this week's Friday Night Fab Five. Thanks for indulging me as I make you sit through my metaphorical "vacation slides". LOL Speaking of which, I framed this honeymoon picture of us with Ariel for Toot's room:

But I wasn't really feeling it so I covered it in water patterned paper, tinted craft snow for sand and added some fish and what nots:

Tomorrow night is girl's night here at my house where there will be booze and karaoke galore, yippee! lol Anyone else singing for their supper this weekend?

A Tisket, A Tasket, I Made A Paper Basket!

The April Kit from LPS strikes again! (With a little tutorial help from Pinky.)

In other news, I'm thinking about doing a complete overhaul on my blog. Something's bugging me about it, hmmm...It's just starting to feel like not "me"....double hmmmm....

ATC=Another Time Consumer

I need a new craft like I need a hole in the head...I mean technically, I already have a hole in my head if you count my mouth...well, actually there's 7 if you count the ears, nostrils and ... ANYWAY ...

My crafting ADD is in high gear, especially now that I am venturing in the world of ATC or Artist Trading Cards. Think of them as baseball cards for artists except without the tooth cracking gum. You make them 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 and other than that, anything goes! There's even entire forums set up just for trading ATCs and there is enormous talent out there to drool over!

My favorite artist by far is Frieda, go to her blog and check out her gallery and tell her the crazy American girl is sending new people to stalk her art, LOL. ;)

So of course, I had to jump right in and what luck! LPS is going to have an ATC swap soon and our theme is Spring, fun fun fun! I've had so much fun researching ATCs and really hope I can become decent at making them! How fun to have something so small to trade with other artists, I love seeing how other people create and this is a perfect, inexpensive way to do it. Woo hoo!

I hope everyone has a great day!

Wait a minute, I'm forgetting something...

Oh right! My very first ATC is finished and ready for viewing! I made it from some scraps out of my April Kit from LPS. I'm not really sure what it is but it's me being creative so I'm happy with it! LOL Remember, it's my first so be sweet! LOL ;) Have a great day y'all!

Crop Around The Clock

A few of the gals from LPS met up in Kentucky for a crop and since some were unable to go (including yours truly, boo!), we decided to hold an Official Unofficial NonKY Crop at the forum. It's been a lot of fun and I got a few 8x8 layouts finished for my mom's next brag book, yes! (The pictures aren't all that great, sorry about that!)

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Friday Night Fab Five: Scrab Fab Edition

I joined the online community of scrappers and crafters recently and with that came an inevitable introduction to Etsy.com. The amount of handmade and/or vintage goodness available cannot be fathomed. I'm all about supporting anything handmade (and hopefully will be adding a couple of this week's Fab Five to my collection soon!) and recycled Scrabble tiles are hot hot hot. Here are 5 of my faves (all of them are linked to their respective Etsy shops so go check them out!):

Hello, how cute is this? I love pink and black together.

I also love blue and brown together and the red birds are perfect for this tile.

Hello, Hello Kitty!!!

Is there anymore more fabulous than Audrey Hepburn?

Erin made this one and I love it. Apples are good for you and bling is even better!

Hope you liked this week's Fab Five. I love flipping through Etsy, so much talent and inspiration to be found there!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I Heart Male...Uh, I Mean Mail!

I love sending "real mail" to people and I love when I can combine real mail with surprises, how fun! lol So I'm going to jump in and be a part of this:

It looks like this is going to be a blast, I already know some of my Favorite Things I'm going to include! Come join in!

Toot Fought The Peas And The Peas Won

Toot is now 6 months old and I'm finally trying some baby food out on her! I've been giving her cereal for the past couple of days and last night we tried peas. She took a few spoonfuls (not enjoying it at all by the way) and then proceeded to gag and throw it all up. Peas-1 Toot-0

So today, being a new day and all, I tried to think positively that she would wake up loving peas. I went for the spoon, she took one bite and then...well, let's just say I'm think I'm going to have to try peas again later. (Notice how the bib says, "Priceless") Peas-2 Toot-0

It got so bad that when I gave up and went to give her cereal, she wouldn't open her mouth and had a look on her face that I can only describe as distrustful. LOL Oh well, I'll win her over with sweet potatoes this weekend!

I have another layout to share that I made using the LPS April Featured Kit. I felt like it needed something so I finally added the safety pins.

Have a great Thursday everyone! If you haven't yet, check out the new show on NBC, Parks and Recreation. I love Amy Poehler and mockumentaries and the pilot last week was great!

A Woman's Prerogative To Change Her Mind

Yesterday we took Toot to get her 6 months pictures taken and for the most part she was fabulous...until about halfway through with she had had enough and started screaming...crud...Ah well, we got some good shots so all was not lost.

I have a two page layout to share that I made using the LPS April kit (everything but the alphas and black Stickles was in the kit). These are some pictures of Toot and Lebowski, where she started out enjoying playing with him and then, as a lady has the right to do, got tired of playing. lol

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

I've Been Framed...With Throw Up

I've been on a frame kick lately and have been scouring my house looking for old frames to make up new. The other day, I found this frame "as is" at Michael's for a dollar. (The glass was missing) I used my newly arrived LPS April Kit to redo it.

I've decided that I'm going to keep track of how many things I can make using my very first LPS kit. I'm really interested to see how far it will go! So here's my first project using the kit:

In other news, now that Toot is 6 months old, we've started with cereal and this morning she ate (gleefully) all of her cereal as well as her bottle and then promptly threw it up all over me and her. I have high hopes that our next go round will be more successful.

I hope everyone is having a great vomit free Monday! :P

SBS Week 4: Patience

Happy Easter Everyone!!!

When I realized that this week's lesson at Scripture Scrappers was patience, my first thought was "oh crap". I am SO not a patient person. It's something I continually struggle with and something I continually strive to conquer.

And it sucks...

So in thinking of the layout I wanted to make, I had no idea in what direction I was headed. lol I have to say that being a mother, I have improved in this area. I think that when you're a parent, you either have to learn patience quickly or go ahead and commit yourself to the looney bin. lol So although I feel like I've improved, I have a looooooooooooooooooooooong way to go! Am I the only one??? (Please say no, please say no) lol

The more I thought about patience, the more I began to view patience, not as a punishment or a way I needed to suppress my feelings, but as a function of letting go. Sometimes I think that the people I know that exhibit the most patience are those that let go of worrying about when things will happen. They just seem to let them happen.

It also occurred to me that patience ties in perfectly with peace. Ever notice that the most patient people are also very peaceful in and about their lives? So maybe the biggest hurdle to my finding true patience is that I've yet to embrace true peace. "A peace that passes all understanding" can surely eliminate an unhealthy need to be first, be quicker, be faster, etc. I'm really just thinking out loud at this point, lol. I really have no clue if any of this is right or makes any sense at all. LOL With that in mind, I'll show you my layout!

I used this picture of Toot and I sleeping because it looks peaceful and to me represents the patience to let it all go...

Now I just need to find out where they sell patience...hopefully I qualify for a discount...

Friday Night Fab Five: Blog Edition

Welcome to another edition of Friday Night Fab Five where I list my current faves for the week or maybe just give you a heads up on things/sites you may have missed. This Friday Night Fab Five is a blog edition! I love love love visiting blogs (and leaving comments!) so I wanted to give you 5 blogs I love to visit. Go check them out because I've pointed them out for a (good) reason! lol

So without further ado...

Friday Night Fab Five: Blogs

1. If you haven't already noticed the pinky blinky to the left, that is the banner for The Secret Is In The Sauce or SITS. SITS is a blog that specializes in encouraging blog comments and support for fellow bloggers. "The secret to success to support" as they say. This blog is a great way to increase visits to your blog and comments as well. It's give and take though but I know you are all already in the habit of blog commenting, yes? :P If you haven't been there already, head on over! Find out what you need to know here.

2. Speaking of SITS, their Featured Blog today happens to be Think Kookie. They have their own line of girls clothing and they also have an amazing talent for finding the coolest stuff online which they post on their blog. I want to buy Toot 5 of everything they sell! They have the grooviest little dresses for girls!

3. Listen, there's nothing better than a cupcake...especially if that cupcake is full of liquor. lol Welcome to Java Cupcake! This blog is all about coffee and cupcakes, woo hoo! Check out her recipe for Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes: "This cupcake consists of a Guinness infused chocolate cupcake piped with chocolate & Jameson whiskey ganache all topped with Bailey's Irish Cream Buttercream Swirl frosting." Oh baby...

4. Boy, I love decorating this blog o' mine. There's nothing better than finding a new background to jazz it up around here and this week I discovered Shabby Blogs. Megan has some c-u-t-e and groovy layouts. She's still working on 3 columns and I am waiting patiently (okay, not so patiently) for when they're up. Go check out what she has going right now and look forward to more fantastic work from her coming up soon!

5. I love finding blogs to stalk, especially if they are new blogs. There's nothing better than visiting someone's blog when they're just getting started and are newly addicted to the madness. lol Christy over at That's Who I Am has a new blog. She loves scrapping and reading and her husband's name is Chris just like mine so already I know she has good taste. lol Check out her blog and welcome her to our crazy fabulous community!

That's it for this week's Fab Five, have a great weekend and Happy Easter everyone!

Holy smokes, I almost forgot! Toot is 6 months old today!!!! Go Toot!

Circle Journal: My Hometown Entry

The journal I received this time had the theme, "My Hometown". Easy enough! The tags included were really small so I used some index prints from Shutterfly to decorate it. I then outlined each with Stickles.

These are some of the simplest layouts I've ever done but that may be because the pictures and brochure filled up most of the space. lol (I went to my Town Hall, got a couple of brochures and cut them up)

I have to say that so far this Circle Journal has been a great experience and I hope I get the opportunity to be a part of more in the future!

I Am Woman Hear Me Roar and Watch Me Ruin Bathroom Floors

I adore my husband with every fiber of my being but he is not a "handy man" type of guy. If I ask him (and ask him and ask him and ask him) to fix something, he'll do it cheerfully but sometimes I take matters into my own hands. After all, he works all day and I'm perfectly capable of fixing things around the house, right?

Wrong.

The toilet paper holder in our bathroom is the kind that fits into the wall. A few months ago this was ripped out of the wall by a friend of ours that enjoys his scotch and apparently thought our tp holder was a walking cane of some sort. So there's been a gaping hole in our wall where this thing is supposed to be and we've been putting our TP on the edge of the bathtub. I had been able to get it in there and kind of prop it up because I have this fear that something's going to come out of the walls through that hole and eat our faces off.

Unfortunately I have very sweet friends who kept trying to put the roll on the holder and it would inevitably fall out of the wall to which they would come to me and say, "I broke your toilet paper holder, I'm so sorry!" Multiple times this has happened when I finally decided, "heck with this!". So I grabbed the "Gorilla Glue" out of the cabinet, glued the sucker back on the wall and that was that...In your face home repairs! Ha!

The next morning I notice that the glue had started dripping down my wall during the night, dried on its way down and I now have permanent Gorilla Glue stripes on my bathroom wall...crud...

On the bright side, there's no way that holder is ever coming out of the wall again...ever...

Better Than A Day At The Spa...

My husband came up to me the other day and said, "You know what? I'm off Tuesday so let's make that your day. I'll get up with the baby so you can sleep in and you can scrap or play video games or do whatever you want all day. What do you think it?"

...

After I came to, he picked me up off the floor and I agreed with his plan. And let me just tell you...today...was...AWESOME! I played video games all morning and then we went to the mall where we just walked around and spent time together. He took care of Toot and it was a good day.

*sigh* Very nice...

Here's a layout I did:

I'm one picture away from having all of Toot's 3 month old pictures scrapped. Woo hoo! Then it's on to her 4 and 5 month pictures. She's turning 6 months on Good Friday so hopefully I won't get too far behind.

I also finished the little flower bench. The pot of flowers on the right was the pot I did for the Flower Challenge at the LPS Crop. Once I did it I realized that it was suppose to be part of this bench so I did the other pot, painted the bench white and added some buttons and Stickles:

How is everyone's week going? I hope you're all having a happy Wednesday!

"Friends Don't Let Friends Craft Alone"

When I won this blog candy from Callista,

I had no idea how much cool stuff would be in that box. I mean obviously it's in the picture, but still! Even better than blog candy was that I gained a good friend in a short amount of time and I think she's just fabulous!

One of the things included in the magic box of candy was this blank plaque:

I've kept everything she sent all together because I really wanted to use it for something special. Yesterday, during my whirlwind of chaotic crafting ADD, I decided that I wanted to use the plaque to make a sign for Toot's bedroom door. Luckily I had some BG Urban Prairie left and used that to make this:

If you haven't already, you're missing out if you don't visit Callista's blog so go on by there and take a look around. Tell her Katamommy said, "Hey girl!" lol

I Don't Have ADD, I Just...Oh Look A Bird!

I am driving myself so crazy lately, I can only imagine the effect it's having on those around me. I don't know if the LPS Crop a little bit ago discombobulated my craftiness or I still haven't caught up on my sleep but this was my weekend (and my Monday!) so far:

"I've got the best idea for a layout! If I put this flower here then I can crochet a ninja! Oh boy, this is going to be the coolest ninja that I should paint that basket and use it for my crocheted Easter eggs, what a great idea! It shouldn't take me long to doodle my journaling tag, what a great idea! That way I can save these other ones for my scrap space is a disaster! I should really clean my new glitter brads! Wow, I can't wait to see what I can paint toothpicks for those flowers, great idea! Now let me just find my brush so I can look at my old paintings! I should use some of my scraps to make a picture on canvas, what a great idea! Then I can oh look! I can use this to organize my alphas, what a great idea..."

And so on and so forth...

But in the midst of the crafting ADD madness, I got 2 layouts done, look at me go!

Okie dokie, I'm off to crochet my brads on my basket so I can stickle the pens that I found to attach the flower. Wait...that doesn't sound right...

S.O.S.! S.O.S.!

SBS Week 4: Peace

This week's Fruit of the Spirit lesson at Scripture Scrappers was on Peace. I chose John 14:27 as my verse: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." Jesus said this to his disciples as a way to comfort them. He explains that although he was soon returning to the Father, the Holy Spirit was coming in his place to be with them. Any verse on peace, regardless of the context, comforts me. lol There are so many times that I allow myself to get bogged down in the noise around me instead of waiting and listening for the soft, calming voice of the Lord.

What gives a bigger feeling of Peace than a sleeping baby? lol :P

This layout was also made for the very first challenge at Paper Blooms! I was so excited to see this challenge because I am loving me some purple and green lately! lol

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Friday Night Fab Five: This Happened, I Swear! Edition

So I had this idea to post 5 things you may or may not know about me for this week's Friday Night Fab Five. I can't decide if this is an awesome idea, an arrogant idea or an idea that I will immediately regret as soon as I hit "publish". I decided to go ahead with it because in the World Of Blogging, nothing is quite as powerful as the feeling you can post whatever you want with no retribution whatsoever. And since I'm power-hungry *rawr* here is this week's Friday Night Fab Five:

1. In the eighth grade, I auditioned for "The New Mickey Mouse Club". I was rejected and as I was leaving the room, the Casting Director stopped me and asked me to sing the song I had prepared. I had one of those, "It's happening!" only-in-hollywood type of moments until half way through the first verse of my song he stops me and very politely tells me to get out. So had I been able to sing, I may have been a Mousekateer and have my very own "Behind The Music" by now.

2. On picture day in the fifth grade, we had a totally cheesy photographer that was making stupid jokes to get me to laugh. I was trying to hold in the laughs and as a result blew snot out of my nose at the very moment he snapped the picture. Luckily, my class was standing in line behind me and saw the whole thing. Ironically, the class bully came up to me afterwards and said, "Don't worry about it, that kind of thing just happens".

3. When I was around 5 or 6, I was at the grocery store with my mom. They had one of those big glass door freezers that holds bags of ice and I wondered to myself how cold it was in there once the door was closed. As Momma was checking out, I opened the door, climbed in and the door closed behind me. It was then that I realized that I couldn't get the door opened and it was also then that Momma noticed I was gone. I spent a minute or two watching her run back and forth in front of the freezer yelling my name. When she finally saw where I was, she was laughing so hard at me standing on bags of ice looking quite satisfied with myself that the manager had to come and open the door to let me out. P.S.-I was fine and yes, that freezer is cold with the door closed.

4. I have yet to understand why chocolate and potatoes come from plants but they don't help you lose weight. Hello? I figure that's a question I'll ask God while I'm filling my plate at the Potato Bar and Chocolate Buffet in Heaven.

5. When I was pregnant, Chris, Momma and myself went to Babies R Us to look at crib bedding. While there I accidently farted and instinctively said, "Oops, sorry y'all!" really loud. This wouldn't have been so bad except it was then that I noticed a sales associate sitting directly behind my backside at the special ordering desk. Oops!

Well, that's it for this week's Friday Night Fab Five! What's the point of a blog if I can't use it to entirely humiliate myself, right? Have a great weekend everyone!

Hooking My Stash

It's the final week of the "Make The Most of Your Stash" contest over at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs. That was a fast 5 weeks! I haven't bought anything scrappy (other than adhesive) since we started, go me! It's amazing how much stuff you DON'T run out of when you stop buying and start scrapping. I challenge all of you to try and make a dent in that stash before adding to it! Or at the very least, scrap it forward and give some of it away, no time like the present for some stashy blog candy! Hmmmm...that gives me an idea...

So here are my final 2 pages for the challenge. The final challenge was a "bingo" challenge where you had to choose one line off a card and use those elements on your layout. The line I chose included: bling (yes, I picked a line that included bling on purpose :P), handwriting, felt, 3 or more pictures and tearing your paper. I love using a lot of pictures and had some of Toot's 3 month portraits to scrap so here they are:

In other news, I also finished my very first amigurumi! I made a bear (with arms as long as it's body, oops!) and a cupcake (my dad thinks it just looks like someone wearing a hat, lol). These were fun to do and I'm hoping to get more done soon!

Now don't laugh, I'll get better! :P lol
