I Blame New York

Hey y'all!

You may have noticed that I've been pretty absent of late around the blogs and at first I was thinking, "Oh everyone will understand and figure that I'm just taking a short break, no worries" but then I came to realize that a little bit of an explanation may be in order.

I've been feeling pretty lousy the last few weeks, extreme fatigue and what not. And being the type of person that doesn't go see a doctor unless a limb falls off (no real philosophical reasoning here, I'd just rather spend that co-pay on glitter :P) I let it ride. I'm feeling better now and figure this is probably just a blip on my hormonal radar. (And to answer the question no one is asking: no, I am not pregnant and yes, I am sure. :D) On top of that, it seems that every crafty type thingie I've attempted to make lately has been caca poopy yuck yuck, therefore nothing to post about anyway. LOL

Plus, lately I have felt the need to "unplug" a little bit. I spend A LOT of time online and while my husband has never been anything but supportive and never questions my "hobbies", I've been feeling like I need to back away just a little bit. That being said, I have missed y'all so much and hate that I've missed so many awesome things that you have blogged about.

BUT the silver lining is that I will be absent for about another 2 weeks! Wait, did I just insult myself? Anyhoo, this weekend we are off to sunny Bronx New York! Woo hoo! As you know, my husband is from the Bronx so we're off to see family and friends and of course, hit up Manhattan so I can spend way too much on vintage who-knows-what and Japanese dolls that I could just buy online and pay half as much. (Yes, I am just that addicted to instant gratification so there.)

For those of you that have been hanging out with me for a while, you'll remember in August of last year we did this trip and had a blast! Toot loved the bus ride into the City:

And I finally got to realize my dream of eating at Ninja New York where I ate delicious Japanese food, drank diamond sake and had this dessert:

It was also during this trip that I bought a vintage hat so expensive, I still throw up in my mouth a little when I think about how much I paid. Ah well, I blame New York. ;)

Anyhoo, all that to say that I will be around as much as I can but will have limited internet access. I may or may not be posting for Vanessa's Mad Tea Party on Saturday but will try my best to post something here while I'm gone. :) I hope y'all are all having a fabulous week and look forward to catching up with you soon! :)

When Hobbies Collide...

Hey y'all!

Don't you love finding things that you can use in other ways? I've always thought these mini t-shirts you can find among the scrapbook embellishments were super cute but not really anything I wanted to use on a layout:


I found some of these on close out at Big Lots last week and funny enough, scrapbooking never crossed my mind when I looked at them. Instead, I got an epiphany...doll clothing! Y'all know I love my Pullip dolls so I started wondering if these embellishments would fit my dolls. And guess what....

SUCCESS! How cute is that? You have to cut a little slit in the back in order to get them on over their hips but add a little velcro or tiny snap button and voila!

Hmmm...not so sweet....But no worries! I mean, everything's washable, right? Besides, these are times we should treasure. For one day soon my little girl will be all grown up and will say...What the what?!


Well, it's just her legs, so let's just get her ready for a...Oh come ON!



Now how in the Wide Wide World of Sports did she 1. Get a pen and 2. Get a pen and color on almost every inch of herself without me seeing???

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Hey y'all!

I was inspired to play along with the challenge blog, These Are a Few of My Favorite Things and their newest prompt: Your Favorite Shoes. Now, I'm a huge shoe freak...or I was at least until I had Toot. lol But that's okay, it's in her blood as you can see in the layout I made for the challenge:

I used some pieces from just about every Gauche Alchemy Mixed Media Color Kit as my embellishments and the paper is Daisy Bucket. :) These shoes are actually too big for Toot but she found them one day in her shoe drawer and has yet to take them off. LOL

I myself am a softie when it comes to super funky cult type movies and shows so I will defend my choices to the death! THE DEATH!!! :P

1. Xanadu

Come on, it's got everything! Olivia Newton John, music by ELO, Gene Kelly, the cute guy from The Warriors, seventies hair, disco music AND roller skating!!! Speaking of roller skating...

2. Switchblade Sisters

My favorite of all of the 70's exploitation films, "Switchblade Sisters" also has everything: Funky 70's music, a girl gang dating a boy gang, the guy that plays Donna's dad on "That 70s Show", bad acting AND a gang fight at a roller rink! Seriously, three gangs fight each other while on roller skates! Awesome!

3. Grease 2

Yeah, yeah "Grease" is the media darling BUT Grease 2 has Michelle Pfeiffer, Adrian Zmed, super cheesy music AND Biker Heaven! Come on, this is awesome!!! "I wanna C-O-O-L R-I-D-E-R!"

4. Drop Dead Fred
I actually saw this one in the theater. Not sure why I like it so much...Maybe it's because I talk to myself a lot...hmmm...

5. The Guild

Okay, there's no reason not to love the web series The Guild, especially if you're a gamer. Love love love this show!

Only You Can Prevent Crocheted Fires...

Hey y'all!

I got the latest issue of Crochet Today and of course saw about 10 patterns I wanted to try all at once. But I did my best to restrain myself and choose just one (for now) and ended up deciding to make this one:

Awwwww...Isn't that the cutest thing you ever did see? A teeny tiny precious camp fire with a happy sweet marshmallow friend on a stick...

Wait a minute...why would a marshmallow be so happy to get lit on fire anyway? Yeah, that's what I thought so I decided to take this pattern and "snark" it up a little bit, Maggi Style...Ka-POW!

That's right...TWO marshmallows on a stick, one of which has already been put through this darling little fire that looks wayyyyyy too happy to be lighting things aflame...then again, that's what fires do so his joyful expression is actually a fair representation.

Anyhoo, there you have it! Poor little marshmallows...at least they got the Toot Seal of Approval:

Wait, that's not right, that's Toot's thing. Ugh.

What I used to do before babies and gluing stuff onto other stuff. :P

These are some pictures from Toot's first birthday.
