Wise Words From a Potty Mouth

Hey everyone!

I'm on a total inspiration kick with the new year, mainly in an effort to keep my own hopes, deeps, aspirations and general ramblings alive. I'm a pretty big "idea" person and am woman enough to admit that I tend to lose focus, get bored and move onto the next "big idea" but the one before it even had a chance to become anything. Well, of course what happens is I end up doing (read: finishing) nothing at all or I do it half-assedly (it's not a cuss word if you add "dly" FYI :P) and it's not worth the paper I scribbled the idea down on.

So I'm going to take a leap and assume that if I'm that way, other people out there must be too and if other people out there are this way too then maybe they read my blog so there might be a chance they need some inspiration and encouragement just like me. A lot of bloggers out there are doing something very cool and picking an "OLW" for 2011, which is one word for their year. Like Julie picked "Faith" and Callista picked "Create" and so on. I've never been able to pin down just one word and for those of you that have read at least one of my posts, you'll know why: I can't shut up long enough to think of ONLY ONE word. lol

So today, I'm going to share something with you that's a lot of words (some of them potty) that I find immensely fascinating. It's a post written by Kevin Smith (of Clerks, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob, etc fame). He curses like a sailor but the genuine feeling of his post is one not to be missed, whether you're a creative type or not. In it he says:

"But nobody else can believe in you if you don’t believe in what you’re doing. I’ve willed almost all the stuff I’ve done into existence, and if I can do that, anybody can do that. So start your chatter: talk about what you’re going to do. Don’t pursue a role, LIVE that role."

I don't want to reproduce the entire post here because...well...that's stealing BUT I've got the link for you and want to encourage you to go read it. And then read it again. I'd love for you to go read it and then come back here and tell me what you think!

Read the article here.

"Ideas cost nothing yet have the potential to yield inexplicably long careers & happy lives. So go ahead: dream a l’il dream." -Kevin Smith

  1. I do believe in the power of positive thinking. When you smile, the whole world smiles with you. :)

I haven't decided on a word for the year. It's soooo hard. It's like telling you that you can only wear that one pair of shoes the entire year. So limiting huh? I'm thinking of a phrase or two or a dozen...;)

  2. I loved reading that post!! Thanks for sharing it Maggi!! And thanks for the shout out too! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

  3. Great post and so true!!!!! I have picked my word and it is Grow...but I hope the does not mean put on anymore weight!!!! :-)

    Just love you girlie!!!

    Have a great one!!!

  4. Oh, I do the same thing. I am so glad I am not in school anymore because these days i have a hard time concentrating on something for too long of a time (except eating LOL).
I'm going to give the one word thing a bit of a think. I like the idea.
    *kisses* HH

  5. Thanks for the shout out Maggi! I LOVE Kevin Smith so thanks for posting this. Going to share it with the hubby as well, he is a BIG fan too.
I can't wait to see what 2011 has in store for you! I KNOW you have BIG ideas and they are going to pan out for you! Think positive girl and go for it! xoxo

  6. So I guess I'll just keep telling myself: I am an artist. No more trying to be anything! :) LOVE this post Maggi! Thanks so much for all the encouragment.

  7. That was pretty awesome - and articulated in only the way that Kevin Smith can elaborate. LOL Thanks for sharing his inspiration with us all! Theresa

  8. Very inspiring! Here's to dreams coming true in 2011!

    Happy New Year!

  9. Thanks for this inspiring post. I'm doing the same thing this year: living life to make my dreams come true and not waiting for them to just happen.
